Competition entry for a renewal of the Vartov Square in downtown Copenhagen. The competition was held by the City of Copenhagen, and requested a new scheme for traffic, parking, public events, outdoor serving, bikes.
This proposal suggests that all parking is laid out in a zone along the square, keeping most of the square clear of traffic. The square is then divided in three.
Top most, here is the starting point for the longest pedestrian street in Denmark. An illuminated floor and the INFO-pyramid invites and serves people. The middle part, trees cover the requested 200 bicycle parking spaces, and frames the old statue in front of a hotel. The bottom part, classic plaza, with outdoor serving, lights for events,
and enough space to host fx concerts and markets.

The Vartov square today, mostly occupied with parking.
